General Chips describe how well-sourced a number is, not how good the insurer is. How we verify explains exactly what each one means.
The rule worth knowing before you call
Since 1 January 2022, an insurer can't quote you more to renew than it would quote an equivalent new customer for the same cover through the same channel. That's the FCA's price-walking ban.
It doesn't stop prices rising, and it doesn't mean your renewal is automatically fair. It means one specific question — what would you charge a new customer like me? — is always legitimate. The full explainer is here.
