The RSA number is on nationwide.co.uk as the line for payment worries, and as the Customer Services line, with the hours above, on the Nationwide-branded site that RSA runs for these policies. Nationwide links to that site from its own. Verified

Getting to the right team

We don't yet know how Nationwide's phone menu is structured, so we're not going to guess. If you work it out, we'd like to hear from you.

Before you call

Nationwide changed insurer. Nationwide says it moved its home insurance to Aviva Insurance Limited on 1 September 2025, because RSA decided to leave the home insurance market. RSA policies taken out before 2 December 2025 move to Aviva when they renew on or after that date. Until then, the RSA policy carries on unchanged. Verified

There is no cancellation fee. Nationwide says so in as many words, on its pages for both Aviva and RSA policies. You pay only for the time you had cover. Verified

Aviva policies can be cancelled online; RSA policies cannot. Nationwide says Aviva customers can cancel by logging in to Home Insurance Manager or by phone, and RSA customers by phone only. Verified

Aviva now also owns Direct Line and Churchill. So if your Nationwide cover is with Aviva, a quote from Aviva, Direct Line or Churchill comes from the same group as your insurer. Cite one from outside it. General

What you're entitled to

  • Your renewal can't cost more than an equivalent new customer would pay. Under the FCA's pricing rules (PS21/5, implemented through ICOBS 6B and in force since 1 January 2022), the renewal price for the same cover through the same channel must be no higher than the equivalent new-business price. The FCA reviewed these rules in July 2025 and left them in place. Verified
  • Fourteen days to change your mind. A statutory cooling-off period applies from the start of cover or from when you receive your documents, whichever is later. It applies again after each automatic renewal. Verified
  • Opting out of auto-renewal is free. You can't be charged for turning it off, and you can turn it off at any time. Verified
  • Nationwide charges no cancellation fee. Nationwide states that if you cancel you will not need to pay a cancellation fee. Before cover starts you get a full refund; after it starts you pay only for the time you had cover. It also says there is no admin fee for updating an Aviva policy. Verified

Lines that work

"I have a like-for-like buildings and contents quote for £X. Can you match it?"

General General phrasing. With no cancellation fee, you lose nothing by leaving if they will not.

"If not, I will cancel. I understand there is no fee."

General Nationwide publishes that there is no cancellation fee, so it cannot be used to keep you.

We publish these as effective general phrasing. They are not insider scripts, and we don't claim a specific saving from using them.
