Before you call
Cancelling is by phone. Tesco Insurance lets you turn off auto-renewal online, in Your Insurance Account under Manage Renewal, but its pages give only the phone for cancelling. Verified
One Tesco page gives the quote line for cancelling. Its car FAQ says to cancel on 0345 366 8631, which its own contact page labels as the line to get a quote. The existing-customers page and the policy booklet both give 0345 246 2895, so we lead with that. Verified
It is Tesco Insurance now, not Tesco Bank. Tesco Bank’s banking business moved to Barclays on 1 November 2024, and Tesco Bank’s own transfer page says insurance was not part of that move. Car cover is arranged by Tesco Insurance and underwritten by Tesco Underwriting Ltd. The old tescobank.com insurance pages now forward to tescoinsurance.com. Verified
What you're entitled to
- Your renewal can't cost more than an equivalent new customer would pay. Under the FCA's pricing rules (PS21/5, implemented through ICOBS 6B and in force since 1 January 2022), the renewal price for the same cover through the same channel must be no higher than the equivalent new-business price. The FCA reviewed these rules in July 2025 and left them in place. Verified
- Fourteen days to change your mind. A statutory cooling-off period applies from the start of cover or from when you receive your documents, whichever is later. It applies again after each automatic renewal. Verified
- Opting out of auto-renewal is free. You can't be charged for turning it off, and you can turn it off at any time. Verified
- Cancelling costs £25 inside the 14 days and £50 after, on policies from May 2024. Tesco Insurance’s own fee table: for policies started after 2 May 2024, £25 within the cooling-off period and £50 after it. Its booklet says the £25 applies even if cover has not started. For policies started before that date, the table gives £0 and £40. Changing your policy by phone costs £25; Tesco says there is no admin fee online. Verified
