We don't yet know how ScottishPower's phone menu is structured, so we're not going to guess. If you work it out, we'd like to hear from you.
Before you call
What to know first
ScottishPower contradicts itself on its own exit fee page. It opens by saying the fee applies if you leave more than seven weeks before your tariff ends, then a few paragraphs later refers to six weeks for the same threshold. Both are on the same page. If you are in that fortnight of ambiguity, get their position in writing before you switch.
They tell you when to ring. ScottishPower publish that they aim to answer within two minutes, that Mondays are busier, and that you should call later in the week if it is not urgent. That is unusually candid, and it is free advice worth taking. Verified
They run a genuine “Thinking of leaving?” page with a save pitch on it — but no dedicated retention number. It routes to the same general line. They also warn you not to cancel your Direct Debit while leaving. Verified
What leaving costs
Exit fees, cooling off and complaints
Exit fee£50 per fuel — so £100 on dual fuel.
ScottishPower is the only supplier we checked that publishes a headline figure. It applies if you switch away from a fixed tariff with more than seven weeks to run. No fee applies if you move to another ScottishPower tariff, take them with you when you move home, if they end the agreement, or once they have sent your tariff-end notification.
Cooling off14 days
Fourteen days — but note it applies to the switch request, not to ScottishPower. Cancel inside it and you stay with them on your existing terms, and you must also tell the new supplier.
ComplaintsEight weeks
Three stages, ending with their Director Support Team. ScottishPower puts the Ombudsman threshold at 56 days, which is the same eight weeks everyone else states, expressed differently.
The window worth knowing: Near the end of a fixed tariff you can leave free of charge even if your tariff carries an exit fee. 49 days is the common figure — British Gas, Octopus, E.ON Next and EDF all state it, and British Gas writes it as “49 days / seven weeks”, which is the same thing and explains why some suppliers quote weeks instead. Two do differ: OVO gives 53 days, and ScottishPower’s exit fee page says seven weeks in one section and six in another. Verified
