Policy changes, renewals & cancellations
0330 678 5111Getting to the right team
We don't yet know how LV='s phone menu is structured, so we're not going to guess. If you work it out, we'd like to hear from you.
Before you call
LV=’s general insurance business is expected to transfer to Allianz Insurance plc. This is a Part VII transfer under the Financial Services and Markets Act, and it is not yet approved — the High Court hearing is listed for 2 October 2026, and only if it is sanctioned would the transfer take effect on 1 January 2027. Any page telling you it is happening on that date is ahead of the court.
If it is approved, the scheme documents say your policy moves automatically: same policy number, same terms, same premium, same team, same phone number, and nothing for you to do. The one visible change is your bank statement, where the direct debit reference becomes ALLIANZ LV INS instead of LIVERPOOL VICTORIA. The LV= brand itself is not being retired — Allianz announced a continuing multi-year brand partnership in April 2026, so the underwriter changes while the name on your policy stays. Verified
Turning off auto-renewal is free and separate from cancelling. LV= lets you do it online if renewal is within 30 days, and by chat or form if it is further out. Changing your policy by phone carries a £15 admin fee that LV= waives if you do it online. Verified
What you're entitled to
- Your renewal can't cost more than an equivalent new customer would pay. Under the FCA's pricing rules (PS21/5, implemented through ICOBS 6B and in force since 1 January 2022), the renewal price for the same cover through the same channel must be no higher than the equivalent new-business price. The FCA reviewed these rules in July 2025 and left them in place. Verified
- Fourteen days to change your mind. A statutory cooling-off period applies from the start of cover or from when you receive your documents, whichever is later. It applies again after each automatic renewal. Verified
- Opting out of auto-renewal is free. You can't be charged for turning it off, and you can turn it off at any time. Verified
- Cancelling after 14 days costs £40. LV= publishes this on its own contact page. Inside the first 14 days you get a refund minus the cost of cover used, even if you have claimed. Cancel before the policy starts and there is no charge at all. If you have claimed, there is no refund — and on monthly payments the full annual premium becomes payable. Verified

Lines that work
"Please confirm my renewal is no higher than your new-business price for my risk profile."
General Invokes the FCA rule directly. Reasonable to ask; nothing to lose.
"I can get the same cover for £X elsewhere — will you beat it?"
General Use after declining their first offer, not before.
We publish these as effective general phrasing. They are not insider scripts, and we don't claim a specific saving from using them.
