Admiral car insurance: renewal number and how to haggle

The number Admiral publishes for motor, and the cancellation fees that catch out anyone on a black-box policy.

Motor customer service

0333 220 2000

Verified Published on Admiral’s own help and support hub as the Motor line. Open Monday to Friday 8:00–19:00, Saturday 9:00–15:00 and Sunday 9:30–16:00. Admiral does not label it a renewals or cancellations line — it publishes no dedicated one. Checked 26 July 2026. Charged at your standard landline rate; included in most mobile call allowances.

Getting to the right team

We don't yet know how Admiral's phone menu is structured, so we're not going to guess. If you work it out, we'd like to hear from you.

Before you call

Admiral publishes no renewals or cancellations line. The number below is its general motor customer service line, which is the route to both. Its own contact page shows no numbers at all — they sit behind a menu that needs scripting to open — so the number comes from the help and support hub instead.

If you have a black box, check the fee before you do anything. Admiral’s published cancellation charges jump from £60 on a standard policy to as much as £160 on an installed telematics policy. That changes the arithmetic on switching completely. Verified

What you're entitled to

  • Your renewal can't cost more than an equivalent new customer would pay. Under the FCA's pricing rules (PS21/5, implemented through ICOBS 6B and in force since 1 January 2022), the renewal price for the same cover through the same channel must be no higher than the equivalent new-business price. The FCA reviewed these rules in July 2025 and left them in place. Verified
  • Fourteen days to change your mind. A statutory cooling-off period applies from the start of cover or from when you receive your documents, whichever is later. It applies again after each automatic renewal. Verified
  • Opting out of auto-renewal is free. You can't be charged for turning it off, and you can turn it off at any time. Verified
  • Cancelling costs £25 in the first 14 days, £60 after — unless you have a black box. Those are Admiral’s own published figures for a standard vehicle policy. On telematics they are far higher: an installed LittleBox or Safe Driver policy is £125 within 14 days and £160 after, in the first year. Plug & Drive is £75 and £110, with £50 back if you return the unit within 30 days. Home and landlord cover is £25 and £39.50. Verified

What they'll say, and what to say back

They doOffers a modest reduction the moment you ask.

You sayName your specific cheapest comparison quote and decline the first offer. The opening number is rarely the best one.

They doWants a genuine like-for-like quote before matching anything.

You sayHave one ready before you call — same cover level, same excess, same add-ons — or the conversation stalls there.

They doOffers free add-ons such as breakdown, legal or windscreen cover instead of cutting the premium.

You sayInsist the saving comes off the premium. An add-on you would not have bought isn't a saving.

General These patterns are drawn from published consumer reporting on insurer retention behaviour, not from Admiral’s internal scripts.

Lines that work

"I can get an identical policy with the same cover elsewhere for £X — I would like to stay with Admiral. Will you match it?"

General Leads with wanting to stay, which is a different conversation from threatening to leave.

"What is the very best price you can offer me today?"

General Use after declining their first offer, not before.

We publish these as effective general phrasing. They are not insider scripts, and we don't claim a specific saving from using them.
