Before you call
The AA publishes three numbers for cancelling car insurance. Its car contact page gives 0330 053 0234. Its general cancel-a-policy page gives 0370 160 0138. Its December 2023 car policy booklet gives 0330 053 0203. All three are on the AA’s own site. We lead with the car contact page’s number because it is the one labelled for cancelling car insurance, but if it routes you wrongly the others are genuine AA numbers too. Verified
Stopping auto-renewal is not the same as cancelling. The AA has an online form that opts you out of automatic renewal only; to cancel, it says to chat or call. Silver, Gold and Platinum customers can opt out in their account. Verified
The AA arranges the cover but does not usually underwrite it. Its renewal page says the insurer comes from a panel, and the cover is arranged by Automobile Association Insurance Services Limited. Your documents name your actual insurer. Verified
What you're entitled to
- Your renewal can't cost more than an equivalent new customer would pay. Under the FCA's pricing rules (PS21/5, implemented through ICOBS 6B and in force since 1 January 2022), the renewal price for the same cover through the same channel must be no higher than the equivalent new-business price. The FCA reviewed these rules in July 2025 and left them in place. Verified
- Fourteen days to change your mind. A statutory cooling-off period applies from the start of cover or from when you receive your documents, whichever is later. It applies again after each automatic renewal. Verified
- Opting out of auto-renewal is free. You can't be charged for turning it off, and you can turn it off at any time. Verified
- Cancelling after 14 days costs £32.50, and the £28 arrangement fee is kept. Those are the figures in the AA’s own car documents for policies bought or renewed from 30 December 2023, the latest car fee document we found on its site. Inside the 14 days, if cover has not started, you get a full refund. If it has started, you pay for the days used, at least £15, and the AA keeps its arrangement fee. Verified

General The AA is a broker with a panel of insurers, so asking it to re-quote across the panel is a fair request.
"If not, I would like to cancel and I understand the fee."
General Knowing the published fee in advance stops it being used as a reason to stay.
